MIB Appoints Three New Members to the MIB Advisory Council (MAC)

MIB Group, Inc., the life and health insurance industry's most trusted and secure resource for data-driven, risk management services is pleased to announce it has named three new members to the MIB Advisory Council. Effective in 2017, the new appointees are: Dr. Gina Guzman, Vice President and Chief Medical Director at Munich Re, U.S. (Life); Kevin Oldani, Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriter at Hannover Re; and Dr. Paul Quartararo, Vice President and Chief Medical Director at New York Life.
The MIB Advisory Council, composed of leading industry representatives, was founded in 2000 to provide input on such critical matters as developments within the insurance industry, issues and practices affecting underwriting and risk classification, and current and proposed MIB services and products.

It provides critical input on an ongoing basis as we update MIB codes, create new services, and has been instrumental in helping us enhance existing services to best meet the needs of our membership."
Gina Guzman, M.D. is Vice President and Chief Medical Director at Munich Re, U.S. (Life). Dr. Guzman has oversight responsibilities for Munich Re U.S. (Life) medical and underwriting functions and leads the medical team's content updates to the EDGE underwriting manual, as well as managing the company's impairment mortality research. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Insurance Medicine. Dr. Guzman was the 2013 president of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM) and remains actively involved on their Executive Council. She currently serves on the Board of Insurance Medicine, the Board of Managers of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Medical Section, the ACLI Genetics Task Force, and the ACLI Medical Issues Committee. She served as President of the Midwestern Medical Directors Association in both 2007 and 2016 and Dr. Guzman is a Fellow of both the Life Management Institute (FLMI) and Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU). Dr. Guzman also serves on the MIB Board of Directors.
Kevin Oldani, Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriter for Hannover Re U.S. has over 35 years' experience in the life underwriting and underwriting management. He is a highly experienced underwriting manager with significant expertise in underwriting and workflow practices for specialty markets that include COLI/BOLI, bank distribution, simplified issue markets, and accelerated underwriting programs in both direct writers and reinsurers. He is past president of Southeast Home Office Underwriters Association (SEHOUA), COLI Directors, Intermediaries and Reinsurance Underwriters Association (IRUA) and the VP program for the Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU).
Paul Quartararo, M.D. is Vice President and Chief Medical Director at New York Life Insurance Company where he oversees a team of eight physicians. His team provides medical review of life insurance applications, maintains the Medical Underwriting Manual, as well as offer medical support and training to New York Life's underwriters. Additionally, Dr. Quartararo and his team actively monitor developments in medical research and clinical practice that impact the company; this includes fields as diverse as genetic testing, cardiology, and wearable technology. Dr. Quartararo is Board Certified in Insurance Medicine and has served as President of the American Council of Life Insurer's Medical Section (ACLI). Dr. Quartararo also serves on the Board of Insurance Medicine for the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM), and he was recently appointed as Finance Vice President for AAIM. In 2015, he served as the program chair for the American Academy of Insurance Medicine's Triennial Meeting and will serve on the 2018 Program Committee. He is a member of the Impaired Risk Underwriting Association (IRUA). Dr. Quartararo joined New York Life in 2003 after practicing Internal Medicine in Stamford, CT for 10 years. He has been Vice President and Chief Medical Director at New York Life since 2013.
